Under 6's to Under 17's
Little Athletics promotes that it is important to “Be your Best” ®. The emphasis is on fun, participation, performance, technique and getting involved with your family in physical and healthy activity. The motto of Little Athletics is ‘Family, Fun and Fitness”.
Across Australia, more than 100,000 girls and boys enjoy the activities of Little Athletics. Little Athletics is the “Foundation for all Sports”. All sports use the skills developed at Little Athletics.
At Port Stephens Athletics Club, each age group competes in 4 events on competition night (Monday nights) on a rotational basis. Ages are grouped into their own age brackets (Under 6, Under 12 etc.). There is no standards or requirements athletes have to meet to be able to participate in Little Athletics, meaning children of ALL abilities are more than welcome to join in. Some of the events include: Sprints, Hurdles, Middle Distance, Shot Put, Discus, Javelin, Long Jump, Triple Jump, and High Jump. Note that some events have age restrictions on them and modified to suit the age group. To find out what age group your child will be in, use the Age Group Calculation Table.
Each registered Little A's member U6s and over can check their results and performance each week through logging onto Results HQ. These results are a good way to track personal bests. These may take up to a week to be entered so please be patient.
Because Little Athletics is a totally voluntary sport, Centres cannot operate without the assistance of parents and other adult volunteers each week in fulfilling the many and varied duties required. These include officiating at an event; managing an age group; recording results; working in the canteen; just to name a few.
Little Athletics is one of the few sports where parents can become fully involved in their child’s sporting interests. A parent/carer is required to stay at the oval whilst their child is participating Little A's, so if you are interested in doing more than just supporting on the side-line, why not volunteer and become an age manager! No experience is necessary, please express your interest by submitting this form below.
